About the Job

As the Associate Category Manager, you will collaborate directly with the Category Manager in ensuring all stores meet sales, margin, and profitability goals through excellent category management. You will work together to maintain and ensure the accuracy of product data, healthy and lasting relationships with our partners, and an authentic product selection at each of our store locations. You will collaborate with the Category Manager and Buying & Merchandising Manager and your team to ensure a thoughtful cohesion between our brand and stores, and position us as a leader in showcasing emerging brands, with a focus on finding new brands before they are added to major distribution channels.

  • Work with the Category Manager to strategically meet sales, margin, and profitability goals through excellent category management of the following categories:

    • Dairy (excluding Specialty cheese)

    • Frozen

    • Grab & Go

    • Home, Health, & Beauty

    • Pantry

  • First in line to cover any AGB absence (PTO, call out or job vacancy)

  • Review weekly waste reports to look for any negative trends and communicate any insights to Category Manager, Store Leadership, and store-level Grocery Buyers

  • Collaborate with Category Manager to ensure that all monthly featured product sets and floor stacks have been ordered and received,  and that they have proper signage and tags and are merchandised according to established department protocols. Ensure consistent communication and collaboration with Marketing & Design to achieve a consistent omnichannel approach to featured sets.

  • Collaborate with Category Manager to ensure that any price changes (monthly or one-offs) are implemented at each store, working with Store Leadership to ensure tags are updated in a timely fashion

  • Work with vendors to set up demos at all stores, throughout the calendar month (excluding First Fridays).

  • Collaborate with Category Manager to execute new Category Management initiatives like product shelf talkers and weekly product discontinued list to further refine our product selection and offerings. 

  • Collaborate with Category Manager on reviewing potential new products for all locations.

  • Develop an understanding of category trends, innovations, customer preferences, nuances by geography and customer segments, and competitor activity.

  • Manage all customer request feeds, inputting that information into a spreadsheet to be reviewed on a weekly basis

  • Collaborate with Store Leadership to assist in resets of the metros, other shelving, and refrigerated sets when needed

  • Assist in setting new stores when needed

  • Work with Category Manager to provide Store Leadership and floor staff with new product information and help with staff education

  • Participate in regular inventory counts

  • Assists on the floor as needed, always providing excellent customer service and addressing the needs of customers in a timely and effective manner

  • Follow and comply, or ensure compliance, with established procedures, including Weights and Measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices

  • Maintain, or ensures maintenance of, a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment; maintain equipment in accordance with cleanliness and safety standards

  • Coordinate big buys for monthly displays and ensure Accounts Payable is kept abreast of all large purchases to ensure COGS are properly accounted for

Physical demands

  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs
  • Must be able to spend 6-8 hours per day on your feet
  • Stooping, bending, lifting, standing for long periods of time, stretching, twisting, reaching, repetitive stocking motions, repetitive food prep motions
  • Stocking of shelves and merchandising displays
  • Handling of refrigerated product in a cold environment for short periods of time

Required education and experience

  • Must be 18 years or older

  • Proficiency in English

Preferred education and experience

  •  Experience with retail, preferably grocery
  •  Experience with food preparation, service, and safety

FLSA Classification

Pay Range

  • $26-30/hour
