About the Job
As the Butcher Lead Clerk, you are responsible for supporting the Associate Butcher Buyer (ABB) in daily department duties. You are expected to be a leadership presence on the floor and a Person In Charge (PIC) throughout your shift. You will be responsible for providing floor support when needed for break coverage in the Butcher Department and the Deli Line with coverage during busy rushes. You will ensure a fresh and appealing display by keeping cases and shelves clean and well stocked by front-facing, checking codes, rotating and removing out-of-date products in both the Butcher and Deli departments. We encourage a team mentality at Luke’s and as such, all staff often assist each other based on the demands of the day. Having a positive attitude, team mentality, and an eagerness to learn is a must. You will also support the ABB by assisting with writing orders and placing orders as needed on their days off. In addition to your department responsibilities, you oversee the following:
Responsibilities

- Work with ABB to ensure all merchandised Butcher and Deli displays are designed and set up according to our aesthetic and company guidelines
- Support ABB in purchasing for the Butcher department in your store on their days off
- Work with ABB to perform weekly checks of movement reports and identify slow vs fast movers
- Ensure products are routinely FIFO-ed, and rotated
- Oversee department checklists, logs, and protocols on a daily basis
- Supervise Butcher Clerks tasks and assisting as necessary
- Work with ABB to distribute work evenly among all staff, assigning duties to specific employees based on role and skills
- Assist ABB, Deli Shift Lead, and other PICs on shift in coordinating breaks as needed
- Ensure excellent customer service and hospitality standards are upheld
- Assist the ABB in training new and current staff in the Butcher/Deli department
- Manage accurate tracking and reporting of waste
- Handling customer issues and managing conflicts
- Maintain Luke’s Local retail standards in terms of cleanliness, facing, stocking, tagging, and merchandising
- Ensure food safety standards are being met at all times
- Maintaining a positive, equitable work environment for all staff
Competencies
- Ability to cut and fabricate meat products from all species including Beef, Pork, Poultry, Lamb & Seafood
- Ability to create further processed meat products such as sausage, meatballs, etc.
- Strong knowledge of cooking techniques and ability to share these with customers

Work environment
- Office and sales floor of retail grocery stores
Physical demands
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs
- Must be able to spend 6-8 hours per day on your feet
- Stooping, bending, lifting, standing for long periods of time, stretching, twisting, reaching, repetitive stocking motions, repetitive food prep motions
- Stocking of shelves and merchandising displays
- Handling of refrigerated product in a cold environment for short periods of time
Required education and experience
- At least 1 year of meat cutting/butcher experience
Preferred education and experience
- Experience with retail, preferably grocery
- Experience with food preparation, service, and safety
Additional Eligibility Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older
- Proficiency in English

Pay Range
- $22-24/hour
