About the Job

As the Store Manager at Luke’s Local, you oversee all operations of the store. You are the steward of the guest experience, the champion of your team, and the face of our commitment to exceptional food and community. You are in charge of all operations at your respective store and are the main point of contact for the store experience, scheduling, department budgeting, cash management, training, and overall profitability of the store. It is your responsibility to achieve the financial results of the store by achieving sales targets, profitability, and by managing payroll and expenses. You will manage all store department leaders and supervisors. The Store Manager reports directly to the COO. A genuine passion for organic, natural, and locally-sourced food — and for sharing that passion with guests and the team alike — is essential to this role. Flexibility to work weekends and holidays is a required component of this role.

Store Experience

 

  • Ensure excellent customer experience
  • Oversee music selection in collaboration with the Assistant Store Manager
  • Enforce a uniform and overall appearance to the customer and representation of the brand
  • Ensure accurate pricing is clearly marked for all products
  • Maintain daily department checklists
  • Maintain a fully stocked and well-merchandised store
  • Assist as needed in all aspects of floor operations, including but not limited to cashier, deli, stocking, ordering
  • Ensure best-in-class phone protocols for customer questions, including prompt & attentive responses, seamless transfers of calls, and daily checks of all phones’ voicemails
  • Monitor and respond to all incoming store-specific email inquiries
  • Communicate and collaborate with co-workers, supervisors, team members, and/or outside contacts in a timely and appropriate manner and in line with our Communication Code of Conduct

 

Staffing & Training

 

  • Directly manage all store staff scheduling to ensure labor budgets are met
  • Oversee comprehensive onboarding & training for all new store staff, ensuring all new team members complete the required onboarding and training program according to Company protocols
  • Ensure the entire team has proper and updated food safety certificates
  • Ensure products are rotated (FIFO) and that employees adhere to local food handling regulations as it relates to temperature control, quality, and storage
  • Oversee department checklists and protocols daily
  • Conduct individual 1:1s with floor leadership (Assistant Manager, Supervisors, and Shift Leads) to encourage clear communication and accountability 
  • In collaboration with department supervisors, conduct quarterly team meetings for each department to ensure all staff are updated on current goals, standards, and needs for the store
  • Oversee the hiring and termination of all store staff
  • Coordinate staffing adjustments when issues/call-outs arise to ensure excellent customer service and store presentation

 

Accounting

  • Oversee daily cash counting and reconciliation
  • Cash deposits and change orders 
  • Secure till management systems to ensure accurate cash handling
  • Ensuring every vendor delivery has an invoice and PO to match and it sent properly to the accounting department
  • Oversee monthly store inventory counts to ensure data accuracy for your store
  • Improving (and at a minimum maintaining) store profitability
    • Sales
    • Labor
    • GM%
    • any other metrics

Reporting

  • Weekly tracking & input of actual vs. goal labor spend and weekly sales in Flash Report
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Store Manager in writing Daily Notes for your store to foster good communication and stay on top of pressing issues that arise
  • Weekly and Monthly Store P&L management

 

Maintenance & Compliance

  • Ensure a fully functional physical infrastructure at your store
    • Refrigeration Service
    • Be the main point of contact and oversight for the store’s Alarm System
    • Electric/Plumbing
    • POS
    • Sidewalk power washing schedule
    • Manage relationships with daily cleaners

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the professional development of the Assistant Store Manager and Shift Leads
  • Manage the entire floor staff team of the store, including Cashiers, Grocery Clerks, Deli/Butcher Clerks, and Baristas

Work environment

  • Office and sales floor of retail grocery stores 

Physical demands

  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs
  • Must be able to spend 6-8 hours per day on your feet
  • Stooping, bending, lifting, standing for long periods of time, stretching, twisting, reaching, repetitive stocking motions, repetitive food prep motions.
  • Handling of refrigerated product in a cold environment for extended periods of time.

Travel required

  • Providing occasional assistance at other stores as needed

Required education and experience

  • 3 years of minimum supervisory experience 
  • 1 year minimum of retail experience
  • Food Handler’s Certificate

Preferred education and experience

  • Experience with grocery retail
  • Experience with food preparation, service, and safety 

Additional Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Proficiency in English

Pay Range

  • $85,000 - $110,000/year
